MANCHESTER 1981
I was awarded a grant for public art by North West Arts Board (now Arts Council England, North West) in 1981. My proposal was for production of multiple screen-prints to be displayed on billboards in Manchester. Moore O’Ferrall supported the work by providing the sites and installation. I created two portraits and, as usual, screen-printed them all by hand, each sheet 30x40in. The two images were on display for one month each, on Oxford Road, Cheetham Hill Road, and in St Peter’s Square.

BARROW-IN-FURNESS 1987
I produced a set of billboards for a Welfare State International event in Barrow-in-Furness in 1987 celebrating the centenary of the Town Hall. Barrow used to be a ship-building town, but now the main industry is nuclear submarines.
